Head on this 3-days hike up Mount Meru starting off the trail with a walking safari spotting buffaloes, Giraffes, Baboons, Etc before getting soaked up with this beautiful but strenuous trail enjoying the best views of the Kilimanjaro. On this hike, You will overnight in huts. This hike is mostly done to pre-acclimatize & get ready for the kill but it is a joy on its own.

On this 4 day Mount Meru Trekking starts at the Momella gate (1500m) and ascends up to the summit (4567m) whereby you will be escorted by an armed ranger. On the way, you will pass through different zones such as montane forests, moorlands as well as alpine desert. You will also get a chance to see wild animals on the way like the zebras, antelopes, white colobus monkeys, giraffes as well as elephant and buffalo. The views are truly breathtaking.

Day 1 :

Momella Gate - Miriakamba Hut

After breakfast, we depart Moshi from your hotel at about 8:30 am and drive to Momella gate. Make payment and start the climb with a picnic lunch. Arrive at the first hut called Miriakamba Hut where you will have dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2 :

Miriakamba Hut - Saddle Hut

After breakfast, we proceed with a climb to the second hut called Saddle Hut. This is a very steep part compared to the first part. In the afternoon, you can decide to attempt climbing the Little Meru peak and back. Return for dinner and your overnight stay at Saddle Hut.

Saddle Hut: 2.5 hrs, 6.1km (3.8mi)
Elevation: 2,503m (8,212ft) to 3,560m (11,680ft)
Altitude gained: 1,057m.

Day 3 :

Saddle Hut - Summit - Saddle Hut

Wake up at midnight and have a cup of tea before starting to attempt the Big Meru peak. Proceed to the summit across the rocky path. Return to Saddle Hut for a full breakfast. The rest of the day will be spent resting. Have lunch, dinner, and your overnight stay at Saddle Hut.

Day 4 :

Saddle Hut - Momella Gate

Leave Saddle Hut and descend to Momella gate via the first hut (Miriakamba). You will then be transferred to your hotel in Moshi before your journey home or your onward trip to Zanzibar.
